Mary Jane Price

Mary Jane Price passed away February 12, 1933, in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was the widow of Harrison Price. Mr. and Mrs. Price were married April 7, 1872, in Jackson County. Mr. Price predeceased his wife in 1918.

Mrs. Price was the daughter of Nathan M. and Lydia Elizabeth Graham Gilliland.

Mrs. Mary Jane Gilliland Price passed away Sunday at 4:10 p.m. at her home, 1406 Center street. Mrs. Price had been confined to her bed for the last eight weeks with influenza and complications, which caused her death. She was the widow of Harrison Price, who died Oct. 31, 1918.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Windel-Howland funeral home with Rev. O.H. Gast, Maysville, Ky., in charge. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery. The body will remain at the residence until noon Wednesday when it will be moved to the funeral home for the services.

Mrs. Mary Jane Price was the youngest child of Nathan and Lydia Gilliland and was born in Jackson county, April 1, 1856. She was united in marriage to Harrison Price in 1873[sic] and 13 children were born to them, nine of whom are living. Two sons, W.A. Price and John Price preceded her in death. Two children died in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs. Floyd D. Munn, Mrs. George T. Watters, Mrs. A.J. Book, Mrs. Walter Meenach, Mrs. Harry B. Johnson, this city, James H. Price, Cincinnati, O.F. Price, New York, O.W. Price, Columbus, and P.E. Price, this city. She also leaves 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Price joined the Christian church when a child and had lived a dutiful Christian life. She was affectionately called "Ma" Price by all her many friends and she was widely known because of her cheerfulness and consideration of others. Although Mrs. Price was of an advanced age, she had been active until this recent illness. Mrs. Price was happiest when surrounded by her large family.

She was a charter member of the Grandview avenue Christian church, which is now called the Central Christian church. She was also a member of the Loyal Women's class and the Ladies' Aid society. She had lived in this city 38 years and formerly lived in Jackson and Lucasville.
