Robert "Pappy Bob" Allen and Beth Ann Jones Allen bought a farm 1 mile south of Crooked Sourwood. His brother in law, Sam Jones, lived 1/2 mile on Jones Creek.

In 1850, when the Taylor County census was taken, Robert Allen, Jr. is 25 years old, a farmer, born in Kentucky. He is head of household #11 in district No. 2 of the county. His wife's name is given as Barthena, age 24, also born in Kentucky. They have one child, Amanda Allen, 11 months of age.

In the 1860 Taylor County census he is family #87. He is 34 years of age, a Farmer born in Kentucky. His wife, Bethany, is 39 and born in Kentucky, as are their three children: Amanda, 10; Enoch, 8; and Eliza J., 1 year of age.
