James Allen Passes Away
Father of Mrs. H.B. Strader Died After Brief Illness
James Monroe Allen died at 5:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.B. Strader, 747 Tremont Street, from heart trouble after a severe illness of two weeks. Mr. Allen had been in Ottawa three months, having come from Kentucky.
He was 73 years old at the time of his death. The decedent is survived by the following children: John M. Allen of Jonesboro, AR, George B. Allen, James H. Allen, and W.T. Allen of Waverly, ILL, Mrs. H.B. Strader of Ottawa, Joe B. Allen of Egger, AR, and John Allen of Glendale, Ky. He was a member of the Baptist Church and of the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic)
Funeral Services will be held at the Strader home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock and burial will be in Hope cemetery. Services will be conducted by the members of the George H. Thomas Post No. 18 G.A.R.

James Monroe Allen was the son of Martin Allen and Elizabeth "Betsey" Bird Jones. He married Eleanor "Ellen" Morgan Tabb on March 20, 1860. He served in the 23rd Kentucky Infantry, Company A. This group was assigned to the 'Army of the Cumberland.'

While visiting his daughter in Ottawa, Kansas, he suddenly passed away and was buried there. He was a widower since 1887. His wife is buried at White Mills, Kentucky.

His son, James Henry Allen, moved his family near Franklin, Illinois, and remained there for the rest of his life.
