US ARMY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA

Donald W. Abel, age 83, of Mountville, formerly of Wrightsville, died July 27, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Betty (Stevens) Abel with whom he observed their 60th wedding anniversary on January 19, 2012.

Born March 23, 1929 in Wrightsville, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur John and Anna (Corbin) Abel.

Donald was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Navy and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He retired in 1994 as a painter from I.T.T. Grinnell Corp. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wrightsville and a member of Abel-Poff-Leithiser American Legion Post #469 of Wrightsville.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by three sons, Kenneth J. and his wife Stephanie of Wrightsville, Jeffrey E. of Punxsutawney, PA and Bradley M. of Columbia; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two brothers, James of North East, MD and Terry of Wrightsville; and a sister, Barbara Lentz of Wrightsville.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, Inc., 700 Hellam Street, Wrightsville, PA with Pastor James R. Copulos officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the service, military rites will be performed at the funeral home by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Following the military rites, cremation will take place and a private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family requests casual attire for the funeral service.
