James Calvin STEFFEN, of Selinsgrove, died Monday, March 25, 1957 at 1:30 a.m. He suffered a stroke in June 1955 and had been bed fast ever since. Mr. STEFFEN would have celebrated his 77th birthday Wednesday.
Mr. STEFFEN was born in Washington Township, Snyder County, March 27, 1880. He was the son of Benjamin Longacre and Emma (MARTIN) STEFFEN. He attended the Reichenbach Public School in Washington Township. On November 16, 1902, he was married to Verna B. OCKER in Middleburg. Mr. STEFFEN worked at the Standard Steel Company at Burnham for six years. He then served 15 years as an employee of the Sunbury Converting Works. He later worked for Bogar Lumber Company, Selinsgrove, for several years, after which he accepted a position with Weis Markets Inc., Sunbury, remaining there for 11 years. He retired in 1951.
Mr. STEFFEN was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Chapter and Dauntless Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Selinsgrove and a former member of the Selinsgrove P.O. S. of A.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Chester B. STEFFEN of Selinsgrove; two grandchildren, Chester B.
STEFFEN, Jr. of Shamokin Dam and Wanda K. STEFFEN of Selinsgrove; two great grandchildren; three brothers, John STEFFEN of Newport; Grant STEFFEN of Lewistown, and Isaac STEFFEN of Yeagertown; five sisters, Mr. Mary Ellen HEIMBACH of New Cumberland; Mrs. Emma SCHLEGEL of Mifflintown, R.D.; Mrs. Annie GILL, of Paxtonville, Mrs. Fred HERN, of Yeagertown; and Mrs. Verda COPENHAVER, of Lock Haven R.D. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday at 1 P.m. at Montgomery Funeral Home, Selinsgrove. Rev. George B. HUMMBER, Pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, officiated. Interment was made in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
