Born in rural Strawn, IL one of eight children of Henry and Anna Meyer Brandt, John married Margaret J. Henrichs in Sibley, IL on Feb. 12, 1912. They had two sons: Harold Henry b1913 and Herbert Eugene b1917, who both died before their parents. By 1977 he had four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
John was proprietor of Brandt's Cafe in downtown Sibley. He also had a prolific garden which provided vegetables and flowers from early spring to late fall.
John was a member of St. John Lutheran church of Sibley and of the Modern Woodmen of America. He died in Sibley.
