Ed Vogeltanz Dead of Sudden Heart Attack
Ed Vogeltanz died abrumpty Tuesday afternoon, a real jolt to the Ord business community. He was the dean of Ord's legal array, after practicing in Ord many years. He was 72, having been born Oct. 12, 1895 at Wahoo.
He leaves a wife, Amelis Polak, whom he married Jan. 4, 1921, also two daughters who are here. They are Mrs. Bette Cornwell of Murray, Utah, and Mrs. Rosellen Staats of San Francisco. A son, Raymond, died tragically as a young man in a swimming accident.
Funeral services have been planned for Monday morning at 10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic church in Ord. (Ord Quiz, April 11, 1968)
Vogeltanz Rites Held Monday from the Ord Catholic Church
Edward L. Vogeltanz, for whom services were held Monday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church in Ord, was one of the most prominent business men and lawyers in this region.
Born Oct. 12, 1895 at Wahoo, he went to study law at the University of Nebraska and was admitted to the bar in 1919. He was city attorney of Ord from 1953-55, president of the Scotia State Bank since 1955, president of the Arcadia State Bank from 1959, vice president of the Protective Savings & Loan since 1958, director and secretary of the North Loup Valley bank since 1945.
A deputy district Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, he was a past commander of the American Legion, past president of the Rotary club, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, active in Elk and Republican circles, as well as belonging to a number of professional and social organizations. He was always ready to help with local projects.
He was married Jan. 4, 1921 to Amelia Polak of Wahoo. She survives him, as do two daughters, Mrs. Bette Cornwell of Murray, Utah and Mrs. Rosellen Staats of San Francisco and four grandchildren.
A son, Raymond, died as a result of a swimming accident in 1945.
Father Staney Gorak was assisted by Rev. Ronald Kokes and Rev. Albert Godlewski at the final services. Mrs. Margaret Edwards was organist and pallbearers were Bob Voboril, Paul Kubitschek, Allan Masters, Dale Stine, Clarene Sixel and John Wozab.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Noll, Judge William Manasil, Judge William Spikes, Judge Donald Weaver, Leonard Cronk, John Sullivan, Rollin Dye, Keith Kovanda, Leo Clinch, Ernest Ondracek, Conrad Erickson, George Allen, Gus Schoensfein, William French, Kermit Wagner, Norman Horacek, Ed Kokes, Syl Furtak, Rudolf Kokes, Dr. F.
