Died, at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, May 27th, Alphonsine Lastrapes, wife of E. T. Lewis, aged 52 years and 28 days.

To her, death came as a not unwelcomed relief from a lingering and painful malady, which for many weeks of suffering allowed no hope of recovery; but, to the husband, children and sister, it brought an anguish and grief that only time can assuage. In their sorrow they will have much consolation in remembering her endearing and excellent qualities. She filled to the fullest measure the tender relation of a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother. This is her eulogy, and none better or more ennobling could be pronounced upon any woman. She bore her sufferings calmly, bravely, uncomplainingly, and bid farewell to the dear ones around her, as if she were simply going on a journey. To the ministers of religion who visited her, she said she was resigned, trusting in Christ, her Savior.
