Judah Griffeth was born on May 23, 1795 in Delaware County, New York. Judah was married about May 12, 1822 in Barre, Genessee County (now Orleans County), New York. Mariah Rockwell was born on May 12, 1800/06, in either Southeast, Dutchess County, New York or in Pompey, Onondaga, New York. Ten children are known to have been born to them. They are;
1. Patison Delos Griffeth born 3 Jan 1824 Barre, Orleans, New York; died 11 May 1901 Grover, Lincoln County, Wyoming; married Elizabeth Carson 26 Apr 1846 Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois
2. Phebe Ann Griffeth born 13 Sept 1826 Barre, Orleans County, New York; died 9 Oct 1827 probably Cuyahoga County, Ohio
3. Phebe Eveline Griffeth born 22 Jun 1828 Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio; died 24 April 1877 Salem McDonough, Illinois; married Marcus Alton 30 Nov 1847 Amherst, Lorain, Ohio
4. Urmina Louisa Griffeth born 21 Feb 1831 Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio; died 27 May 1899 buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Page, Iowa; married 10 December 1852 Eli Carr Warren County, Illinois

9. Ambrose Adelman Griffeth born 20 Apr 1845/46 LeHarpe, Hancock County, Illinois; died 4 Feb 1921; married Virginia Creighton 28 Nov 1866 Knoxville, Knox, Illinois; Ambrose is buried in the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Scandia, Republic County, Kansas. His tombstone apparently states he was born in 1845.
10. Ancel Fernando Griffeth born 9 May 1848 Warren County, Illinois; died April 10th or 11th, 1920 probably Norway, Republic, Kansas; married about 1873 Phebe J Robart; Ansel is buried in the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Scandia, Republic County, Kansas.

Bill Griffeth wrote that "Judah was anointed a high priest of the Mormon Church by Joseph Smith Sr. That occurred in March of 1836 in Kirtland, OH. Just a few months later, in June, Mariah Griffeth gave birth to a son. They named him Joseph Don Carlos after the Mormon Church founder and his youngest brother, Don Carlos Smith. After Joseph Smith was killed in 1844, the only Griffeth family member to follow Brigham Young to Utah was oldest son Pattison Delos. He had married Elizabeth Carson in Nauvoo in 1846. He then married a second wife, Elizabeth Roberts, in 1863. Two of Pattison and Elizabeth's daughters entered into a plural marriage with Mormon Bishop William Hyde. In the late 1890s, when plural marriage was outlawed, Pattison left Utah for Wyoming where he died in 1901."

Judah was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A Church website has the following information about Judah. "One year after the organization of the church(or about 1831 as the church was organized in Western New York about 1830), Judah heard the gospel and accepted it. He moved his family with the body of the saints and followed the Prophet. He was ordained a high Priest by Joseph Smith Sr. in Kirtland, Ohio. He died June 30, 1879 at Thurman Fremont, Iowa. He did not go west with Brigham Young but remained with the Josephite Church, known today as the RLDS or Community of Christ Church."

Judah and Mariah are known to have moved the family west to Ohio about 1827, where they settled in Lorain County, not too many miles west of Kirtland, Ohio in Lake County. Sometime between 1837 and 1839, the family moved further west still, this time to Illinois, where they initially settled in Warren County, located just northeast of Navoo, Illinois in Hancock County, where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints relocated in 1839. Sometime between 1843 and 1846, they moved to Hancock County, Illinois, but returned to Warren County about 1847 or 1848. Some family members believe that Mariah died on February 13, 1852. If this is the case, she must have died in either Warren or Hancock County, Illinois.
On July 26, 2012, I received the following email;
"A cousin of mine, Donnalee Meachum Adwell, recently had me try to locate the tombstone of Mariah Griffeth in the Meridian cemetery in Warren County, Illinois. The stone, if there ever was one, must have been one of the flat stones that broke off over time and was lost. Donnalee remembers her grandmother telling her that Mariah was buried near the center of the graveyard, west of the church building(now gone). Donnalee's grandmother also told her that Judah had died and was buried at Thurman, Iowa. I'm just passing this along so that you can add it to the information you already have, so that others can know for sure where they're located. Sincerely,
