Mrs. Lamber was vice chairwoman of the Bergen County Republican Organization and formerly executive director. In the latter post, she was "the familiar voice on the other end of the phone and the smiling face you met at the door," Bergen GOP Chairman Robert B. Yudin said in a statement.

Yudin praised Mrs. Lamber's "unwavering" support of GOP candidates and her "countless hours" spent coordinating Republican events.

The Hackensack High School graduate had been a member of the Hackensack Republican County Committee since 1978 and was a legislative aide in the 1980s. She was honored last year by the Bergen County Women's Republican Club.

Her involvement in Republican affairs sprang from an early career as a legal stenographer, said her husband, Lewis.

He said he had no interest in politics, but that wasn't a problem for his wife.

"She was wonderful about it," he said. "She just told me how to vote, and that's how I voted."

Mrs. Lamber also was a longtime PTA president at the Jackson Avenue School and Hackensack High School.

She worked at the Bergen County Utilities Authority in Little Ferry as secretary to the commissioners.

Mrs. Lamber is survived by her husband, Lewis, of 39 years; two sons, Keith of Hackensack and Justin of Ridgefield; her father, retired Hackensack Police Lt. Patsy Paolella of Toms River; a sister, Patricia Paolella of Hackensack; and a granddaughter, Savannah.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 this morning at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Hackensack, under the direction of the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Service.
