Earnest Owen Caldwell, 78, Douglasville, died April 28, 1999. He was born in Paulding County, son of the late Marcus E. and Delia Caden Caldwell. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 17th Armored Engineering Division and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He was retired as a floor manager for the Genuine Parts Co. and was a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Bertie Caldwell; son, Greg O. Caldwell of Rockmart; sisters, Florence Baswell of Villa Rica and Audie Mae Leggett of Yorkville; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. April 30 at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home with Dr. John Pennington officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart. Pallbearers included; Ty Caldwell, Jimmy Womack, Harvey Wilson, Harold Whitney, Donald Hannah and Jack Hannah. (The Rockmart Journal, May 26, 1999)
