Elsie Margaret was the daughter of John William and Louisa May (Crosby) Hamilton - and the fifth child of a family of six children - three boys and three girls. Her siblings were: Lilly, William Donald, Isaac Willis, Bessie, and John Junior.

She was born October 10, 1915 at Willowdale and stayed on the farm with her parents until she married Avery Scott November 15, 1938. They settled on a farm at Garrington, Alberta, and ran the farm and worked in the lumber industry. They had two children, both boys. They later parted and were divorced, and Elsie married Thomas Whitelock December 9, 1961. They lived at Golden, B.C. where Tommy worked in a lumber mill.
