Funeral services for James Carroll, 86, of Levelland will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Levelland, Texas with Rev. Paton Parrish, Minister of Music, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland. He died, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Levelland.

James was born on October 4, 1925 in Kress, Texas to Monroe Dempsey and Susie (Loftin) Carroll. He graduated from Plainview High School and then obtained his BS and MS degrees in Agricultural Education. He served in the 69th Infantry Division of the US Army that met the Russians at the Elbe River during World War II and this effectively divided the German forces near the end of the war.

Following his discharge, he began teaching Vocational Agriculture in Estelline. He also taught at Anton, Floydada, Whiteface and Lubbock and retired as a professor and Chairman of the South Plains College Agricultural Department. James was married to Mary Welch on January 27, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church, Anton, Texas. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church, Levelland, Texas and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Levelland Lions Club, the American Museum of Agriculture, the South Plains Antique Tractor Association and the 69th Army Infantry Division Association. James restored his father's 1929 Rumely tractor and a 1950 Studebaker pickup and received numerous awards at shows and parades.

Survivors include, his wife, Mary (Welch) Carroll, his daughter: Kay Daniel and her husband Phil of Levelland, Texas; his sons: Stanley Carroll and his wife Cheryl of Lubbock, Texas; and Bill Carroll and his wife Suzy of Abilene; his grandchildren: Julie Dale and her husband, Ian; Susan Wiri and her husband, Tom; Jill Odorizzi and her husband, Jeff; Jimmy Carroll and his wife, Jakie; Matt Carroll and Drew Carroll and two great grandchildren: Audrey and Erik Dale.
