AUGUST BAECKMANN (d. 1923)
DEATH COMES TO OLD PIONEER OF THE CITY
August Baeckmann, lifelong resident of this city and who for years conducted
a wagon shop here, died at his home 1109 South Thirteenth street at 2:39
o’clock yesterday afternoon after an illness of nearly a year. Mr. Baeckman
was born in Germany July 22, 1854 but has made his home in this city since
childhood.
Eight months ago, Mr. Baeckman was forced to give up his business on Washington
street because of failing health and the past two weeks has been confined to
his bed, death being due to heart trouble.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock Friday afternoon from the home
to the German Lutheran church and burial will be at Evergreen cemetery. Rev.
Machmiller will officiate at the services, both at the church, of which Mr.
Baeckmann was a life long member, and at the cemetery.
Decedant is survived by his widow, Mrs. Louise Baeckmann and six children, two
sons Walter and August of this city, Mrs. Joseph Svoboda of Chicago, the Misses
Alvina and Louise also of Manitowoc and Viola of Racine. Two brothers, Carl and
Fred living in this county, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Wehrlie of Milwaukee
and Mrs. Andrew Atern of this city, also survive.
