Born in Fayette Township, Lafayette County, April 18, 1905, he was the son of James W. and Bertha L. Skews Gant. He attended the Blanchardville schools. He married the former Charmian Blanchard Aug. 26, 1929, in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Blanchardville area for several years. She died Oct. 28, 1947. His marriage to Yvonne Steketee took place Dec. 7, 1952. She died in 1961.
He is survived by a son, James C. Gant, New Glarus; a daughter, Mrs. Tony (Charmian) Palmeno, Denver, Colo.; a brother, Bernard W. Gant, Blanchardville; two step-daughters, Mrs. Donald (Kay) Lageson, Blanchardville, and Mrs. Donald (Mary Lou) Skaife, Platteville; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wives and a brother, Carl, in 1928.
The deceased was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a bus driver at Blanchardville for more than 20 years.
Funeral services held Saturday, May 29, in the Blanchardville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Thomas Long officiated with interment in Graceland Cemetery, Blanchardville.
