Garfield E. Colden, age 71, Blanchardville, died Mon., Sept 26, 1977, at the Lafayette County Manor, Darlington. Mr. Colden had been failing in health the past five years.

He was born in the Town of York (Green County) on March 15, 1906, the son of Lewis and Annie Moen Colden. He attended Yellowstone School. He was married on March 13, 1924 in Yellowstone Parsonage to Lulu Watkins. He farmed in the Blanchardville area, worked on road construction in the Milwaukee and Madison area and retired in Blanchardville in 1973.

Survivors include, his wife, Lulu, Blanchardville; children (five daughters) Mrs. Joyce Combs, Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Wayne (Shirley) Lausch, Monroe; Mrs. John D. (Leah) Meyer, Argyle; Mrs. Clayton (Karen) Hauser, Darlington; Mrs. John (Garnett) Hutton, Blanchardville; one sister, Mrs. William (Delores) Hill, Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Floyd Colden, Blanchardville; Lloyd Colden, Madison. There are 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Garness, who was killed in action during WW II, one brother, Thomas; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Goldie) Thompson. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed in the Yellowstone Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Blanchardville, Pastor Martin Dreyer officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call at Saether Funeral Home from 4 – 9 on Wednesday and at the Trinity Church after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
