FREER, Texas – Magdeline Rose "Maggie" McWhirter, a resident of Freer, Texas, was called to heaven on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the age of 28 years old. She was born on December 14, 1981 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to her parents, Janie and Oscar McWhirter. She was a Freer High School graduate of the Class of 2000, and then attended Coastal Bend College of Cosmetology in Kingsville from which she received a degree in cosmetology. She was a loving mother to her son Connor and a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. She enjoyed spending all her time with her family and friends and she never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Maria Petra [Campos] De La Fuente, Willie De La Fuente; and her paternal grandfather, Pete McWhirter.

Maggie is survived by her mother, Janie McWhirter, her father, Oscar (Sandra) McWhirter, and her son, Connor Riley Sims, all of Freer, Texas; two sisters, Rachel (Ernie) Perez, of Freer, Texas, and Jennifer (Treye) Ransier of Burnet, Texas; one brother, Nathan (Patricia) McWhirter of Freer, Texas; paternal grandmother, Gladys McWhirter of Houston, Texas; maternal great-grandmother, Maggie Fuentes of San Antonio, Texas; seven nieces, Abigail, Kayla, Mariah, Jasmine, Mercedes, Rebecca, Hailey; six nephews, Keanu, Preston, Harry IV, Marcus, Nathan, Ethan; two great-nephews, Mark and Tristan; three stepsisters, Lacey, Cassie Darcie; and one stepbrother, Jon.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Interment will follow at the DeLa Fuente Cemetery in Seven Sisters, Texas.
