HARLOW BLESSING, son of John W. Blessing & Elizabeth (Sparks), born Aug. 23, 1840, died from Typhoid Fever on Aug. 6, 1862, in Key West, FL, during the American Civil War.

About 1860, at Great Bend, PA, Harlow married Adelia Conklin sometime between the 1860 Federal Census [Sep. 17, 1860] and his entry in the US Army for the Civil War on Sep. 28, 1861.

Harlow, his brother John Blessing, Adelia's father, Oliver C. Conklin, and brothers Osborn and Jacob Conklin enlisted in the Civil War. Of these five family members, the only one who survived the war was Adelia's brother, Oliver.

The 1860 census of on Sep. 24, 1860 shows Adelia (recorded as Cordelia) to have the surname of Blessing. Adelia/Cordelia Blessing, 17 yrs, born in NY state, was a domestic of David Mcelwe of Great Bend, PA

Harlow's military stone was created several years after his body was removed during 1927 from the Key West Post Military Cemetery and transported by tugboat to Pensacola for re-interment in the Fort Barrancas National Military Cemetery. It is not known if all 468 Key West military burials were successfully transported. Harlow Blessing also has a memorial headstone within the McKune Cemetery, Oakland, Susquehanna County, PA.

The 90th Regiment, NY Infantry was organized by consolidation of McClellan Chasseurs and McClellan Rifles at NYC during Nov & Dec 1861; departing for Key West on Jan. 5, 1862. The Regiment lost 2 Officers and 58 Enlisted men killed & mortally wounded, and 7 Officers and 181 Enlisted men by disease.

Harlow's widow, Adelia Conklin, applied for Civil War widow's pension on Aug. 25, 1863. Appl. # 31.121, Cert. # 24.965. Harlow Blessing died at the P. H. Key West, FL, from disease (Febris Typhoides).
