In 1987 she married Lawrence Krisna Parker, better known as KRS-One, and was associated with his group Boogie Down Productions (BDP) until their divorce in 1992. Her debut single "Hype According to Ms. Melodie" was released in 1988, also in 1988, she made an appearance in Queen Latifah's video "Ladies First" and guest starred in Keenen Ivory Wayans' film "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka ". She released "Diva" her first and only album in 1989. Her single "Wake Up, Wake Up" reached the Top 20 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles Chart in 1989. She was 43 years old.
