Gus Shockley Blankenship, 74, of 313 Union St., Martinsville, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

He was born May 6, 1929, in Henry County, the son of the late Clarence Luther Blankenship and the late Ida Mae Wright Blankenship. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle Williams Milam. He formerly worked at Martin Processing.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mamie Virginia Lawson Blankenship of the home; two daughters, Sharon Gayle Cardwell of Martinsville and Janet B. Blankenship of Collinsville; two sons, Glenn S. Blankenship and Daniel Blankenship both of Martinsville; one sister, Dorothy Barrow of Spencer; one brother, Eugene Marvin Blankenship of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services with the Rev. Tim Whiteheart officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services and other times at the home.
