Roberta Eileen Hanson, 81, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Roberta Benson was born March 6, 1917, in Fulton, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell. She later taught at Rempp Country School in Yankton County for two years.

She married Howard Hanson on May 20, 1939, in Alexandria. They farmed in the Mission Hill area for many years. They moved to Volin in 1969.

She was a member of Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill for 30 years and Volin Lutheran Church for 29 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons: Ronald of Mission Hill and Rick of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters: Donna Dawley of Brandon and Eleanor Bass of Fairfax, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert of Mitchell; and two sisters: Ruby Freng of Yankton and Ruth Martinsen of Canyon Lake, Calif.

Services begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Faith United Lutheran Church, rural Volin, with burial in Vangen Cemetery in Mission Hill.

Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, with the family present from 7 to 9.
