He attended grade school near Hazel Run and graduated from the Madison Normal School at Madison, Minnesota, in 1898. He also attended the School of Business at Dixon, Illinois, and graduated in 1900. That year he went to Madison, Minnesota, and engaged in the general merchandise business, conducting it for three years.
In 1903 he was united in marriage to Ida Husebo at Madison. They settled on the farm in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County. To this union five children were born: Erva, Lela, Orville, Eunice and Vernice. Death claimed Mrs. Anderson in 1914, leaving him with the children, the oldest 10 years of age.
In 1918 he was united in marriage to Mathilda Droen of Clarkfield. To this union five children were born: Leon, Arley, Marvin, Erling and Odean.
Three of his children have preceded him in death: Erva (Mrs. Herman Tongen) passed away in 1941, Odean passed away in 1941, and Leon was fatally injured while serving with the U.S. Army in France in 1944.
He was a lifelong member of the Hazel Run congregation holding the office of secretary for 27 years. He was also active in community affairs serving on the School Board for a number of years and also as a member of the Friendship Town Board for 35 years.
In August of 1949, Mr. Anderson's health began to fail. He retired from farming and moved to Clarkfield later in the fall. In spite of medical and surgical aid and the care of loving hands, he gradually failed and prayed for the end to come, and he was ready to meet his Savior. He had much sorrow and tribulation which caused him to turn to his Savior for comfort and help. He impressed upon his children the importance of relying on God's provision saying, "Let nothing come between you and God." He was a kind and loving father, our sole companion to whom we could always go for help and advice.
Mr. Anderson's last greeting to relatives and friends:
"I want to thank the members of the congregation, friends, neighbors, relatives and all for what you have done for me, for all your kind deeds. I was so unworthy of it all. I am asking each one for forgiveness for all my failures and mistakes. If I could stretch out my hands to help you, I would. God bless you all."
He passed away Friday morning, April 19, 1951, at his Clarkfield home, at the age of 73 years.
He leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife and seven children: Lela (Mrs. Eugene Larson) of Hanley Falls, Orville of Dawson, Eunice and Vernice (Mrs. Harold Dahl) of Minneapolis, Arley, Marvin and Erling; three sisters: Julia (Mrs. Walter Thompson) of Alexandria, Dora and Annie (Mrs. Ted Rosvall) of Minneapolis.
Besides his three children, preceding him in death are his parents and two sisters, Tilla and Minnie (Mrs. C. C. Thompson).
Blessed be his memory!
