Elmer's first wife, Sarah Jennie Abbott, was born an Abbott, daughter of Abner Abbott of Maine and Laura Hammond of Woodstock, Vermont.

Elmer relocated to Barnard, Windsor, Vermont where he remained for the rest of his life, with a brief interim sojurn to Illinois with wife Sarah Jennie where son Royal Hamilton was born. They returned to Barnard and lived there until their respective deaths.

Sarah Jennie was not related in any known manner from recent historical times, although it is believed that most Abbott lines in America were somehow related.

In addition to little Mary Jennie Abbott who is interred here with her parents, Elmer and Sarah Jennie had four other children who are not interred here:

Eleanor F Abbott Simpson, 1851 - 1921
Kittie A Abbott Whitcomb, 1854 – 1879
Royal Hamilton Abbott 1859 – 1922
Trueman Leroy Abbott 1865 – 1930 (Trueman's final resting place is cited as being Riverside Cemetery in Lewiston, Androscoggin, Maine, but his headstone has not been located.)

Kittie Abbott Whitcomb's final resting place is not currently known.

He had no children with second wife Ruth Gilbert, nor his third wife, Delia Gilbert. The two Gilbert wives were from separate families and also not known to be related to one another.
