James Carl (Jim) Young, 80, died July 11, 1993 in Price.

He was born April 4, 1913 in Price, Utah to Silas S. and Mary Ann Young Young. He married Helen Thomas February 28, 1935. She died in 1952. Married Kathryn Bingham in 1953. She died March 1984. Married Florence Grames Safford Lessar December 17, 1985. All marriages were in the LDS Temples.He was raised on Youngs' Coal Creek Ranch, north of Wellington. Worked five years at Price Lumber & Hardware Co. Worked as a carpenter building the road to Horse Canyon Mine and in building Dragerton. He was Salt Lake Tribune reporter in Price for four years. Moved to Napa, California in 1951. Worked as a carpenter and foreman for five years. He was farm editor and feature writer for Napa Register daily newspaper four years. The last 15 years, before retiring, he worked at Rough Rider Manufacturing Co. in Napa as carpenter and truck driver, driving to San Francisco daily. On retirement he moved to Grass Valley, California in 1977, studied real estate sales in Sacramento and became affiliated with Century 21 Real Estate in Grass Valley. After the death of his wife, in 1984, he moved back to Price.

Lifetime member of the LDS Church. Had served as a member of bishopric, Sunday School superintendent, MIA president, 70's Group leader, High Priest Group leader, Boy Scout leader for 25 years. He loved the mountains, backpacking and hiking. Was a fly fisherman, photographer, oil painter with landscapes in the homes of relatives, friends and buyers. He wrote a book "Go Love A Mountain", and also a brook on family history.

Survived by his wife, Florence, one son, Carl S. Young, an Air Force Officer at Beale AFB in California; one granddaughter, Melissa, one brother, Leland T. (Lee) Young of Salt Lake City; a niece, Maria P. Young, Price; and numerous nieces and nephews in Utah and Idaho.

Memorial services will be held in the Price 4th Ward, Friday, July 16, 1993, 1 p.m. At his request, Jim will be cremated.
