Ralph J. Harms, 97, Forrest, passed away at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday (July 17, 2012) at Fairview Haven Nursing Home in Fairbury.

Ralph was born March 26, 1915, in rural Forrest, on the family farm, a son of John and Jessie Saathoff Harms.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Francis and George Harms; two sisters, Ollie Head and Margaret Smith; one nephew, Dale Miller; and one niece, Mary Beth Kinate.

He lived and farmed his entire life on the family farm, established in 1902, until moving to Fairview Haven Nursing Home in 2006. Ralph was educated in Carter School District 202. At one time, he owned farmland in Marion, Livingston and McLean counties.

Ralph was a Pleasant Ridge Township trustee for 40 years and a Vigortone salesman for many years.

He was a member and a Sunday school teacher at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Forrest, and helped build the parsonage and the church. Ralph also was a member of the American Hereford Association, Illinois Corn Growers Association and Livingston County Farm Bureau.
