SAN JOSE, Calif. - Jean F. Brainerd Anderson, October 19, 1940 May 15, 2012.

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Jean due to heart failure while she was visiting family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born in Marquette, Michigan to Charles L. Brainerd, Jr. and Leone Becker Brainerd; the fourth daughter in a family of five siblings. Jean graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1958 and then earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University in 1962 where she was a member of the Beta Omega Tau sorority.

Following graduation, Jean accepted a teaching position in Royal Oak, Michigan. After two years and being single, she and a former classmate moved to Denver, Colorado in search of new employment. In making a career change she began a long tenured association with Prudential Insurance Company as part of their clerical administrative staff. After two years she accepted a transfer to the San Francisco District Office. She progressed quite rapidly in the company and then in 1972 she made one final move to San Jose to become Administrative Office Manager. She completed a 30 year career and retired in 1995.

Jean married Raymond D. Anderson, a fellow classmate at Bishop Baraga on August 21, 1971 in San Francisco. Their only child, Timothy James was born on June 25, 1979 and was the center of her life. She was a generous, caring, and loving wife and mother and was always thinking of others, especially family or friends in the performance of a special occasion. Jean was thoughtful and in possession of a remarkably outgoing personality. All will miss her surprise gifts and cards she sent on a regular basis. Her passion for See's Candies and Mackinaw Island Fudge ice cream from Jilbert Dairy was well known. She prided herself in keeping track of birthdays, wedding anniversaries and the like for not only immediate family, but cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, etc.

Jean was a member of St. Lucy Parish in neighboring Campbell, California.

She will be missed by friends and acquaintances in San Jose and especially in Marquette where she and her husband visited for several weeks each summer at a Lake Superior cottage.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents and two aunts in San Francisco with whom she was extremely close. She is survived by her husband Ray of nearly 41 years and son Tim of Cody, Wyoming. She is also survived by sisters Barbara Muniz and Mary Alger (Mort) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Charlotte Mansfield (James) of Spokane, Washington; and brother, Charles L. (Larry) Brainerd III of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Nieces and nephews include Cara Chavez (John); Rebecca Muniz; Angela Mansfield (Garret Veley); Christopher Mansfield (Karen); Greg Mansfield (Donna); Michele Boal (John); Ann Piraino (Greg); Julie Alger; and Kelly Anderson (Lou) as well as several grand nieces and nephews. Brother's-in-law include K. Dale Anderson (Carolyn) and Jerold D. (Jerry) Anderson along with sister-in-law Mary F. Martin.

Burial will be at the Park Cemetery
