Sibyl Driggars Rich

Sibyl Driggars Rich, a resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012, at her residence. She was 97 years young.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Heritage Baptist Church with the Rev. Van Clack and the Rev. Austin Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. At other times the family will receive friends at 104 N. Idlewild Path.

Mrs. Rich was born on September 24, 1914 in Taylor, Alabama and later lived in Geneva County, AL. She graduated from High School in Slocomb, AL in 1932 with honors. She was selected Valedictorian in both her ninth and twelfth grades. Her mother passed away at an early age which caused her to forfeit college training to stay home and assist in rearing her two youngest siblings.

She later lived in Chipley, FL where her family owned a grocery business. There she met and married the Reverend Everett S. Rich of Cairo, GA. Upon retirement they returned to Bainbridge, GA where they served as associate pastor at Morningside Baptist Church.

After her husband's death in 1976, Sibyl became interested in returning home to Dothan. In 1980, she and her sister Carolyn returned to live together. She has been a loyal member of Heritage Baptist Church since then.

Mrs. Rich was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Everett Rich and Bonnie Lee; father and mother, Charles A. and Maude Ward Driggars; brothers, Terry, Wallace, Adolph and Fred Driggars; two nephews, Alan and Ted Driggers.

She is survived by a son, Ed Kent Rich (Pat) and his son, Kent Rich, all of Cairo, GA; a son-in-law, Delma Lee (Mary Ann) and his son, Gregory and his daughter, Sherry; a sister, Carolyn Driggers of Dothan; nephews, Jim Driggars (Brenda) of Clanton, AL, Charles R. Driggars (Joyce) of Birmingham, Charles A. Driggers (Judy) Ashville, NC, and Darwin Driggers, Tampa, FL; nieces, Ann Beagle of Gainesville, FL and Malarie Redmon; special cousins, Dorothy Ward and Peggy Merrill, both of Dothan and several other cousins and relatives.

Offerings are being accepted in the Lord's name by Heritage Baptist Church.
