On June 15, 1939, she married Kenneth G. Bower. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple the following February 15, 1940. Her beloved Kenneth passed away in 1953. She then married Henry T. Williams on June 4, 1954. They were later divorced.
Besides Logan and Ogden, she lived in Panguitch, Circleville, Fillmore and Kaysville, Utah and in San Bernardino, California and Everett, Washington. Merle graduated from Weber State University with high honors in the School of Nursing and was chosen most outstanding student in her class both academically and clinically. She later completed a B.S. degree in Nursing at the University of Utah. She worked at McKay-Dee Hospital in various capacities including the Clinical Coordinator of the operating room until she retired in 1988.
She was active in the LDS Church all of her life with 20 years of service in Primary and Young Adults and later in Relief Society callings. She was chosen by the Young Adult Stake members to receive an honorary Golden Gleaner award in 1970 for church service. She fulfilled an LDS Missions in London England and San Diego, California from 1993 to 1995.
Merle is survived by her sons and daughters: Bruce (Glenda) Bower, Topeka, KS; Brent T. (Nicolette Seidner) Williams, Portland, OR; Marilyn (Terry) Lotz, Centerville, UT; Colleen (Allen) Thiede, West Jordan, UT; Eva (Matthew) Miller, Taylorsville, UT; Denise Williams, West Jordan, UT; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Delano (Marion) Hunsaker, Logan, UT; Robert H. (Elaine), Logan, UT; Marie Berrett, North Ogden, UT; and Denise Peterson, Bountiful, UT and sister-in-law, Enid Hunsaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 infant daughters: Merlene and Ellen Bower; brother, T. Earl Hunsaker and brothers-in-law, Elwood Berrett and Bill Peterson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
