Gave up 9 month old William
to the Vanderlinden family after his wife, Johanna, died in 1869.

Wm. Van Beek, an aged man who is making his home with his son, W. J. Vander Linden, on the county line south of town passed away at the home of his son at 2:45 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, July 8, 1911. William Van Beek was born in Holland in December, 1834, and came to the United States 42 years ago. He located at Pella and resided there for about twenty years. His wife whose maiden name was Johanna Van De Hoef, passed away at Pella 41 years ago while the son, W. J. Vander Linden, was a small child, so he was adopted and given a good home by a gentleman named Vander Linden. Mr. and Mrs. Van Beek were the parents of five other children, two of whom, Henry Van Beek, of Sheldon, O'Brien county, and Mrs. Dirkje Van Luttikhoisen, of Pipestone county, Minnesota, survive the parents. After residing at Pella for twenty years, Mr. Van Beek went to Orange City about 22 years ago to live with his daughter, but after her removal to Minnesota some time ago, he came to Eddyville and had been cared for by his son since June 9th. The aged man also spent six months with his son at this place a couple of years ago. Since coming here a month ago he had been quite a charge to the family, as his health had been failing since January and his mind was in a feeble condition, and he had to be constantly guarded lest he leave the premises and wonder away. He was taken worse Wednesday night of last week and his death followed three days later at the age of 76 years. He was the last of the family of brothers and sisters to depart this life. The funeral services were conducted at the First Reformed church Tuesday afternoon. Services in Holland language were conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. B. Mansen, while Rev. W. W. Williams, pastor of the Baptist church, spoke in English. Interment was made in Highland cemetery. The Pella Chronicle, July 20. 1911
