Dorothy Freida is the daughter of Joseph Julius DeMarsh and Ruby Fowler DeMarsh. Joseph married Ruby Ursula Fowler and had three children before Ruby died in 1903. Joseph then married Sarah Rebecca Little. After two infant deaths they had two living children. The entire family of five was living in OK near Tulsa when Joseph disappeared. He would work in Tulsa during the week and go home on weekends. He left for work one week and was never seen or heard from again, leaving his young wife with five children to support and no means of income. Joseph had left her with three step children to raise plus her two biological children, a single woman with no independent income. Sarah was heartbroken but had to find homes or give the children up - Dorothy Freida DeMarsh she found a home for with her paternal aunt in Detroit, MI. Freida grew up and married Lawrence Snediker, having three children with him. Harold DeMarsh and Vincent DeMarsh she could not find homes for and had to relinguish them to an orphanage. Harold found a home but Vincent did not. Both boys continued to keep in touch with Sarah over the years, she was the mother they knew and loved as their own had died when they were so young.

Freida's paternal grandfather (Joseph's father)was Augustus DeMarsh who was born in France and immigrated to USA about 1845. His grandmother was Maria Bradt DeMarsh who was born in Cape Vincent, New York her father an immigrant from Germany and her mother having been born in Cape Vincent, last name Shaw.

Dorothy Freida and Lawrence Snediker had three living children, Shirley Catherine born 1926, Thomas Morton born 1930, and James Lawrence born 1934.
