Epharin (sic.) Lape, 84, died after an illness of a year, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cora Cornel, Saturday morning. He was born October 20, 1846, at Berlin, PA, and in 1865, he enlisted as a private in company K of the eighty-eighth Pennsylvania Infantry, serving during the Civil war and was mustered out of service in Washington, D.C. In 1866 he came to Illinois, settling at Bloomington, where he was employed first as a grocer, and later by the B.F. Hoope Company.

January 1, 1871, he married Malinda Van Gorder, settling in Dry Grove Township, where for eight years he was tax assessor, later moving to Ellsworth township where he also served as tax assessor for three years. He later resided on his farm near Foosland, moving to Fisher in 1907.

Mrs. Lape preceded him in death two years ago. Survivors include in addition to Mrs. Cornel, one son, four grandchildren and five great grand children. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. A.H. Colernan, assisted by the Rev. Dean McGraw, pastor of the Christian church. Burial will be in the Willowbrook cemetery.
