Elizabeth Steiding was born to John Bernhardt Lebrecht and Mariea Elizabeth (Batree) Steiding. She was born on the family farm at the homestead that was located at the intersection of Turkey Neck and the Steiding Church Road, in Garrett County, Maryland. She was the eighth of ten children. Elizabeth married Jacob Wiley 03 February 1897, when she was 21 years of age, in Garrett County. Jacob was the son of Alexander Wiley and Martha Garlitz. He was born in Bittinger, Garrett County, Md., on 03 February 1874 and he died young on 09 February 1920, in Keyser. They lived on the farm there until after their first child Nellie Wiley was born. They moved to Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia. They had the following children: Nellie E., Bruce Otto, Arthur C., Wilda W., Winona, Ernest E., Austin S., Josephine G., and Constance L.. On the 1940 census, Elizabeth was living at 31 G Street, in Keyser, the New Creek District of Mineral County, West Va. She was 65 then and had been widowed since 1920. Living at home with her were her daughter Nellie, a 42 year old school teacher; another daughter Wilda (Wiley) Kight, a 35 year old single receptionist in a Doctor's Office; Jean Ann Kight the three year old daughter of Wilda and Granddaughter of Elizabeth; a son Ernest a thirty year old son, who worked on the Railroad. At the time of Elizabeth's death at the age of 86, she lived at 31 G. Street in Keyser; and died at the Potomac Valley Hospital of uremia. "Lizzy" was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She resided in Keyser for 55 years and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. In her obituary in The Cumberland Times, dated October 8, 1961, it showed she was survived by: Bruce Otto Wiley and Mrs. Wilda Kight, both at home; Mrs. Winona Sines, College Park; Mrs. Josephine Carman, Cheverly, Md.; and Mrs. Constance Rincones, Caracas, Venezuela; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Markwood Funeral Home handled the services and the burial. The Rev. Donald D. Anderson officiated, and interment was at Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia. Elizabeth was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
