Samuel A. Gerrior, Purple Heart recipient
Mr. Samuel A. Gerrior, 87, of Western Avenue, died Saturday at Lahey-Hitchcock Hospital, Burlington, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary (Finn) Gerrior. Born and educated in Larry's River, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Simon and Angelique (Pelrin) Gerrior. He was a resident of Lynn the past 50 years and previously lived in Wakefield.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a sergeant and received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Gerrior was employed by L.B. Evans Shoe Manufacturing Company for 40 years, retiring in 1983. After retiring he distributed newspapers for The Item. He was a communicant of St. Pius V Church. He was a member of the Valladolid Council No. 70, Knights of Columbus, where he was a fourth-degree member and the West Side Social Club in Wakefield. He was also a former East Lynn Little League coach and was involved with many charitable organizations.
Mr. Gerrior leaves two sons, two daughters, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Irene Johnston. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., followed at 10 a.m. by a funeral Mass at St. Pius V Church. Burial will be in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
