Grover Harrison Reed, 79 of Hix, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday March 21, 2010 in Beckley A.R.H. Hospital following a short illness.
Born September 24, 1930 at Hix, he was the son of the late Otis & Grace Fox Reed.
Mr. Reed was a former timberman and retired as a master mechanic from Coleman Trainer Corporation of Huntington. He worked in Massachusetts for a number of years as a mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Shrader Reed on June 24, 2009. Also preceded by two brothers, Alvin & Jesse Reed. One sister, Lydia Plumley.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Reed of Hilldale and Jack Reed of Huntington. One daughter, Julie Reed & fiancee' Justin Lilly of Hilldale. Two brothers, Robert Reed of Nimitz and Owen Reed of Athens. Four sisters, Ruth Richmond of Hix, Jewell Thompson of North Ridgeville, OH, June Wood of Crown City, OH and Lois Kencaid of Grafton, OH. Three granchildren, Willow Lilly, and Ben, Amanda & Sarah Reed. Several great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 25, 2010 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.
