Dale R . Hawkins , Ph.D 1925 ~ 2003
Surrounded by loved ones in his home, our independent and ever non-conformist father leapt into that brilliant shaft of celestial light, following lingering pneumonia, on Monday, February 10, 2003.

He left a devoted wife and a loving posterity of nine children and 37 grandchildren; married JoAnn McAllister,

Aug. 30, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; born Aug 3, 1925 in Bluffdale Utah, the 4th child of Oswald Thomas and Jennie Luverne Robbins.

Dad was reared in Bluffdale and Sugar House; graduated from South High in 1942 and joined the Naval Air Corp. and was a pilot World War II. He attended University of Utah studied civil engineering, and graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Banking, Finance and Economics; received his PhD. from New York University. He returned to school and obtained an additional B.S. Degree in Data Processing from Weber State.

He served as clerk treasurer of the Wasatch and Uintah Co. School Districts; taught at Davis High School, was a Professor of Finance at Weber State from 1961-1987. He had a great love for his country and was passionate about teaching principles of free enterprise. He was creative, unique and inspired his students and family to be the same. He was an expert carpenter, brick mason and electrician. He enjoyed singing and was a former member of Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Dale was a dairy goat farmer for a while, loved gardening, and writing. He self-published several books, including "You are a Genius, Creative Thinking Proves It". Dad gained notoriety for his unusual and accurate forecasting of the Great Salt Lake water level.

Dad served a LDS mission to Denmark where he was assigned to be Traveling Mission Secretary and Assistant to the President. He was a Bountiful Temple Ordinance Worker. We will forever remember Dad's mini lectures: "use your good thinker"; "hoe to the end of the row"; and "honesty is the basis of all good character traits".

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn McAllister Hawkins, and children, Melodee (J.R.) Westmoreland, Dale (Tami Roberts), Sharon (Loren) Simnitt, Mary (Mike) Hammon, Carolyn (Rick) Scheese, Rebecca (Rich) Bond, Joseph (Julie Goodrich), Elaine (Matt) Smith, Sylvia (Alma) DeMille.
