He enjoyed farming, mowing, spending time with his grandchildren, camping and watching John Wayne westerns.
He was born June 14, 1930 in Burke County, NC. He was the son of the late Joseph P. and Martha M (Biggerstaff) Rumfelt. He married the late Barbara Jean Pierce June 6, 1930, and she preceded him in death March 18, 1991.
He is survived by a daughter, Tonya A. Standeford, Fairmount; two sons, Paul (Terry) Rumfelt, Jonesboro, and Delon (Roberta) Rumfelt, Marion; two brothers, Ned (Doris) Rumfelt, Morganton, NC, and Homer (Janice) Rumfelt, Marion, NC; three grandchildren, Samantha Hanley, Chris (Christy) Rumfelt, both of Fairmount, and Heidi Rumfelt, Gas City; five step grandchildren, John (Ann) Jacobs, Charity (Tony) Marshall, both of Marion, Chris (Ashley) Standeford, Bluffton, J.W. Standeford and Kara (Phil) Curry, both of Huntington; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Patton and Geneva Patton; and three brothers, Ray, James and Roy Rumfelt.
