Life means more with music and so it was for Randy Hugdahl, born May 6, 1922, in Chippewa Falls, Wisc. Randy passed peacefully on June 27. 2012. Randy bought his first trombone with money earned delivering newspapers. He played in his high school band, graduating from Riverside High School, Wisc., Class of 1941. Randy enlisted October 27, 1942, in the 91st Infantry Fir Tree Division Army Band, Camp White, Oregon. He married Medford native, Beverly Pearson, September 29, 1945. Randy and Bev have resided in their family home since 1950.

Randy was a mail carrier and retired from the Postal Service in 1981, after 34 years of delivering mail. His music career began his senior year in high school with his first musician's union card and his first job was with Larry Evert's Big Band in Milwaukee. Randy returned to Oregon in 1946, and has played for 20 years at the Rogue Valley Country Club and most recently he was with the Easy Valley Eight at the Standing Stone Brew Pub in Ashland. In the past 66 years he has played with the Ashland City Band, the Southern Oregon Concert Band, Shrine Band of Ashland, High Society Band, Dixie Fat Cats, Rack of Bones, Oregon Jazz Band, Swing King's and for 35 years, the Annual Pear Blossom run.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of 66 years; twin daughters, Sharon (Warner) Curl, of Seattle, WA, and Karen (John) Trotter, of Salem, OR; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Thirty-four family members gathered on his birthday this past May 6, to honor and celebrate his 90th birthday.
