Marie Bernhardt Best, 84, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, in Starkville, Miss. Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Starkville, Miss.

Marie was an alumna of Our Lady of Victory, Arlington Heights High School and TWU. She and her husband, Richard, raised their family and enjoyed life in Fort Worth. Marie moved to Starkville in 2002 to be near her daughters. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a volunteer for Oktibbeha County Hospital, and a bridge and bunko player. She loved to travel, loved her church, Starkville and her friends. A special thank-you to her caregiver, Kierra Ware, and the staff of Montgomery Gardens Assisted Living in Starkville, Miss. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard Bryan Best; son, Richard "Ricky" Bryan Best III; parents, Mary and Harry Bernhardt; and two special friends, Robert McDavid and Bobby Ming.

Survivors: Daughter, Donna Coughlin and husband, Richard, and their children, Seth Coughlin and wife, Caroline, and Meagan Coughlin; daughter, Diana Crabtree and husband, Donald, and their children, Jason Howard and his daughter, Kirstie, and Lyndsey Richart and her children, Sophia and Peyton; grandson, Richard "Ricky" Best IV and wife, Kristen; sister, Ann Cooper and her children, Carrie, Page and Chris; sister-in-law, Dolly Williams and her children, Peggy, Susie and Betty; nephew, Eddie Best; and niece, Lenora Scales and husband, Vernon.
