ANOTHER OLD SETTLER DEAD
Word reached this city Wednesday announcing the death of Mrs. David McMillan of Waupaca. She died that morning after a long illness, at the age of sixty-nine years. Mrs. McMillan was better known to our old residents as Mrs. W. J. Empey. With her husband William Empey, she came here in the 70's and for a great many years, or until the death of Mr. Empey in 1889, they conducted the Empey House at 718 Washington Street. That house is now owned by Cawley Bros. and is occupied by Mrs. D. Kennedy as a boarding house. The Empey House in an early day was the home of many of the residents of the city. About four years ago Mrs. Empey was united in marriage to David McMillan and since that event she has resided with her husband in Waupaca.
Deceased's maiden name was Cornelia Bound. She was born in town of Conklin, Broome County, N.Y., May 27, 1835. She was first married to William James Empey Feb. 22, 1860, who died in the year above stated. She was married in 1899 to David McMillan who survives her.
Paragraph on her good character.
Besides her husband she is survived by two sons and one daughter, Alexander, of Merill; Mrs. Lottie Neff, of Kaukauna, and Albert Empey, of this city, and three step children, A.J. Empey, of Miladore, and Mrs. Jas. Haskin and W.H. Empey, of this city. Besides those she has one brother and one sister living at Plainfield, F.S. Bound and Mrs. Ellen Kennedy.
The remains were brought here and interred in Pine Grove Cemetery (Wausau, Marathon Co., WI.) Friday afternoon, the funeral being held from the home of her son, Albert of Washington street at 2:3- o'clock, the Rev. Carmichael conducting the services.
The pall bearers were A.H. Grout, A.V. Gearhart, W.W. Albers, Albert Althen, F.W. Burt and E.B. Thayer.
Burial November 19, 1904, Wausau, Marathon, Wisconsin.
