"Oneonta---Aaron Eldred, Jr., 15, of Morris, died at Fox Memorial Hospital here Saturday night from injuries received in a coasting accident in front of his home Saturday afternoon. The youth was coasting in his driveway when he was struck by a car operated by Arthur Stone of Laurens. According to state police at the Oneonta substation, the Eldred boy was coasting in the driveway about 5 p. m. He coasted into route 51, about two and a half miles north of Morris, into the path of Mr. Stone's vehicle. The right front wheel of the Stone car, according to police, struck the sled, swinging it in front of the front bumper. The car swerved to the side of the highway carrying the youth and sled with it, and became wedged in a snow bank ... At 7 p. m. the boy died from a fractured skull. Dr. Norman W. Getman of Oneonta, Otsego County coroner, issued a verdict of accidental death. The youth is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Eldred, three brothers and a sister; and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Eldred, with whom the family resided, and Mrs. Louella Raymond of Portlandville ... Body will be placed in Hillington cemetery vault for burial later." (Binghamton Press (Binghamton, NY), Monday, Jan. 19, 1948, p. 3)
