Harold Henry Hammon, Jr., the son of Harold Henry Hammon and Edna Belle Raymond Hammon, was an allied member of John and Betty More's Jonas line. He was raised at Oneonta, New York where his father was a machinist at Bendix-Scintilla Plant at Sidney, New York. When he was but three-years old, he suffered a probable skull fracture when he fell from the low roof where his mother was hanging out laundry. In 1968, he was a United States Air Force Airman 1st Class and in the 437th Supply Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston, South Carolina and was instrumental in that squadron's becoming the Military Airlift Command's top fuels management branch. Harold married to Katherine Rose Schnack on 31 August 1979 at Schenevus, New York. They made their home at Maryland, New York. Harold H. Hammon Jr. ONEONTA _ Harold H. Hammon Jr., 62, of Oneonta, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta. He was born March 5, 1948, in Oneonta, the son of the late Harold H. "Hap," Sr. and Edna B. Hammon. On Aug. 31, 1979, Harold married his soulmate and the love of his life, Katherine "Katie" Schnack at the United Methodist Church in Schenevus. Katherine predeceased him Oct. 15, 2000. The most cherished years of Harold's life were the years that he and Katherine spent together. The family finds comfort in knowing that they have been reunited. Harold was a lifelong area resident. He attended Oneonta High School and later received an associate's degree from SUNY Delhi. Harold proudly served in the United States Air Force as a fuel specialist from 1967 to 1971, including time in Vietnam. One of Harold's greatest qualities was his friendly, outgoing nature. He enjoyed interacting with people during his years as a driver for Dial-A-Bus, being a manager at Taylor's Service Station and as a caregiver. Harold most enjoyed his time driving tractor trailer cross country, for Long Haul Express in New Jersey, with his wife. Harold was an avid history buff. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, listening to oldies music, NASCAR, and watching trivia game shows. He recently participated in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. He was a past member of the Eagle's Club in Oneonta. Harold is survived by four children, Tammy Hammon-Card and her husband, Tim of Oneonta, Peggy Jones Martindale of Oneonta, Cheryl Jones Besson and her husband, John of Gilbert, Ariz., and Robert C. Jones Jr. and his wife, Trish of Maryland; 13 grandchildren, Olivia and Jarod Card, Jennifer, Ryan, Lindsey, and Cheryl Martindale, Alec and Johnny Besson, Christina and Kimberly Jones, Cathy Knauf, Traci Smith, and Linda Kiefer; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several brothers, nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Donald Eldred Jr. and his wife, Lillian of Virginia. He was predeceased by a sister.
