Stroman

Leo Stroman died at his home in Wimberley on March 23, 2005, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

An open house celebration of Leo's life was held on Saturday, March 26, at 2 p.m. in Rockdale at the home of Leo's daughter Linda.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1931, in Winsboro to Arthur and Babe Stroman.

Mr. Stroman met and married Betty Hope (Griffith) Stroman, in Corpus Christi on Nov. 29, 1951, and they spent 53 happy years together before he was called home.

Mr. Stroman was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1953.

He received both his bachelor and master of science degrees from Texas A&I, Kingsville. He was a high school athletic coach and teacher for 30 years, retiring after 15 years in the Rockdale Public School system. "Coach Stroman" was loved and respected by the many students who he coached and taught and often received calls and letters from them over the years thanking him for the positive impact he made on their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, W.A. Stroman.

He is survived by his beloved wife Betty; three children, Linda Stroman Wilson and husband Don, Timothy Martin Stroman and wife Kathy, and William Keith Stroman and wife Kay; six grandchildren, Kelly Windham and husband Bill, Brent Hatchett and wife Brook, Kelsi Cervenka, Makenzie Stroman, Matthew Stroman and Parker Stroman; and three great-grandchildren, Madison Hatchett, Megan Hatchett and Creek Windham; his brother Alton Stroman; also, many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels for the loving and attentive care given to Leo during the last months of his life.
