On May 30, 2012 Verna Briggs Coombs, 94, slipped quietly into death at Avalon Care Center in Sonora, Calif.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Briggs Manful, four of her children and spouses, Briant & Voni Coombs, Joyce & Jim Burdick, Donna & Joe Corno, Roberta & Blaine Ostler and son-in-law Clifford Bursett. She leaves behind a devoted progeny including 25 grandchildren and over 50 Great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Claybourn Coombs and her daughter Margaret Sue Bursett.
Her life was spent in joyful service to others. She was a strong and dedicated member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She and her husband Leslie fulfilled a life-long dream by serving together as missionaries in the LDS Scotland Glasgow Mission. She held many leadership positions within her church and was a vibrant and active member of her community making a positive impact where ever she lived.
She was born in Fairview, Utah, and she and Leslie lives in a variety of places throughout the western U.S. including San Diego, Calif., Fort Worth TX, Burbank, Calif., Thousand Oaks, Calif. and Bicknell, Utah. Retirement years were spent in Leisure Village, Camarillo, Calif., where she will long be remembered for her continuous smile, ready laugh and compassionate care of friends and neighbors. She was revered for her leadership and dedication to her family. She remembered the names of generations of children whom she lovingly taught to follow their Savior and love one another. Her life provided a permanent ray of sunshine to all who crossed her path.
A viewing will be held at 10a.m. and services at 11a.m., June 4, 2012 at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints 4345 Las Posas Rd, Camarillo, Calif.
Internment immediately following at Valley Oak Memorial Park, Westlake Village, Calif.
