According to biographer Kenneth Warlich whose research was reprinted in Burke County Heritage, Vol. I published in 1981, Philip and his brother John bought land in the Table Rock community of Burke County. John remained, but Philip sold his parcel and purchased land in the Icard area of easter Burke County. Oral tradition has it that he owned land from Warlcik's Baptist Church all the way to Penelope Baptist Church.
Philip's contributions to his community were many. He operated a corn mill, and also ran a coach line between Salisbury and Old Fort. He served as a justice on the Burke County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions. He gave the land for Warlick's Baptist Church and was instrumental in its founding.
