At Rest

Mrs. Mary Roy, more familiarly known to all as "Grandma" Roy, passed away after a long illness at the home of her son, Job D., in this city on Sunday morning at 1:40 o'clock, aged 79 years, 11 months and 16 days. The funeral was held in the M.E. church on Tuesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. W. E. Blair, of Savoy, and the body was laid away in the Johnson Cemetery. Eight miles west of town.
Mary Vance was born March 26, 1822, in Pendleton county, W. Va. At the age of 18 she was married to John Teter, of that county, and to this union was born one child -- Palmyra Harper, now of Fisher, Ill. Her first husband having died, she was married on Oct. 15, 1843, to Jesse L. Roy at Seneca, W. Va. In the year 1857 they moved to Illinois and settled at Funk's Grove. About 37 years ago they moved to a farm near Parnell, where they resided until eight years ago, when, upon the death of her husband, "Grandma" left the home place and has since lived among her children, spending most the time with her son J.D.
Seven children are left to mourn her departure -- India Gardner, of Iowa; Robert J. and Estaline McKinley, of Parnell; Ocdeviah Johnson and Job D., of this city: Marcy Spratt, of Clinton and L.W., of Soloman.
