Woodfin – Virginia Irene Hale Honeycutt, 87, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a 1942 graduate of Barnardsville High School where she was Salutatorian.

Mrs. Honeycutt was formerly employed with American Enka Corporation, served as Alderman for the Town of Woodfin from Dec 1979 to Dec 1983 and was a Representative for the Land of the Sky Regional Council in 1979.

She was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and was a former member of Richland Baptist Church.

Mrs. Honeycutt was a daughter of the late James F. Hale and Maude Belle McPeters Hale and wife of Donald Henry "Don" Honeycutt, Sr. who died March 2, 1979. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Julia Harris, Kathleen Higgins and Betty Hale.

Surviving are her sons, Donald Honeycutt, Jr. and wife Diane of Woodfin and Gary Honeycutt and wife Karen of Oxford; granddaughters, Lauren Honeycutt and Jennifer Honeycutt; grandsons, Justin Honeycutt and wife Sarah, Jacob Honeycutt and Connor Honeycutt; sisters, Pauline Hale of Woodfin and Annie Whitt and husband Rubin of Brevard and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Newbridge Baptist Church with Rev. Clark E. Henderson officiating.

Burial will follow in Elk Mountain Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 Saturday at the church.
