Given name is inscribed on tombstone as "Abnar" - all other documentation spelled it as "Abner."

The 1850 census of Gilmer Co, GA lists Abner Watkins, age 16, as the only child of Henry & Rebecca Watkins to be born in SC. However, later census data indicates that Abner was born in GA.

Abner Wadkins (sic) & Martha J. Fannin married Dec 28, 1856, Gilmer Co, GA; Bk 2, Pg 93.

In 1860 census , Abner, age 25, & Martha, age 20, are living next door to his parents; they have 2 children, Henry, age 2; Elisa A, age 1.
(According to one source, Abner & Martha were also listed in 1860 census for Benton Co, AR with the same two children. I could NOT find such a listing; however, I did find a son of Abner & Nancy Smith Watkins in 1860 census of Benton Co, AR - "William H. & Lucinda Watkins" (Henry Wadkins & & Lucinda Scoggins married Jan 20, 1850, Gilmer Co, GA; Bk 1, Pg 245. In 1850 census of Gilmer Co, Henry Wadkins, age 21, & wife, Lucinda Wadkins, age 14, were living only two houses from Henry & Rebecca Smith Watkins.)

In 1870, Abner & Martha Watkins, both age 36, were in Bradley Co, TN; this is ONLY census in which all of their 4 known children are listed, and the ONLY census which lists son, Enoch, with his parents ...
Henry, age 13, b GA
Analiza, age 10, b GA
Charity I., age 8, b GA
Enoch, age 7, b GA

In 1880, Abner & Martha, ages 46 & 40, are back in Gilmer Co; two children listed - Henry J., age 22; Liser A., age 20. (Note that son Enoch D. Watkins & Missouri Elizabeth Whitener had married in 1879, and are listed in their own household with their 1-mo old daughter, Roma [sic]. Later records prove this child's name was actually Neoma.)

In 1900, Abner Watkins, age 65, is listed in the Boardtown District of Gilmer Co. He is widowed, but shown with him is a daughter, Alice Watkins, age 10, born in Alabama. This suggests that Martha had died (no further details re Martha) and Abner had married a second time, perhaps in Alabama, where daughter Alice was born, and the second wife may have died.
