After spending many years in New York, James retired on January 30, 1982 from the Ward Leonard Electric Company and moved back to Amelia, VA.
James was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on January 23, 1978, and took very seriously the command by Jesus Christ to share the good news of God's kingdom (Matthew 28:19,20). James embraced bible truths and enjoyed sharing his beliefs with all whom he came in contact with. He touched the lives of of many, leaving a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him. His favorite scripture in the bible was Matthew 7:12 which states: All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them.
On May 17, 2012, after a brief illness, James died peacefully. Sadly, James was predeceased by his wife Jane and two children, David Lee Archer and Mary Agnes Sweat. He is survived by five children; James S. Archer (Alyce), Ronnie Archer (Tammy), Janice Perser, Alice Truitt, and Pamela Hamlet (Chris); three sisters, Dora Epps, Fannie McBroom and Mary Jeter; one brother, Robert Archer; 13 grandchildren and great grandchildren; nephews, one devoted Mason Archer, Jr.; nieces and a host of relatives and many friends.
As the family patriarch, James will be remembered for his laughter, humility and his unwavering dedication to Jehovah God.
Funeral Services Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:00 am at Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness, Amelia with interment in the Promise Land Baptist Church Cemetery, Amelia.
