Aaron Betz was born on June 2, 1835 in Summit County, Ohio. He was the third of seven children born to John Betz (1808-1863) and Rebecca Beyer. His siblings were Samuel (1831), Susan (1833), George W. (1832), Mary Elizabeth (1839), Charles W. (1842) and John Benson (1844). Aaron Betz was drafted as a private in 1861 into Co. C. of Akron but was honorably discharged that same year due to a disability. However, he re-listed in 1862 and served in the Quartermaster's Department, 7th Division, Army of Ohio, at Cumberland Ford, KY until he was once again honorably discharged. He then returned to farming. Aaron Betz married Anna Catharine Baughman on August 20, 1863 in Summit County, Ohio. Together, they had 11 children: Bertha A (1865), Elizabeth Mary (1866), George W. (1868), Florence L. (1869), Susan C. (1871), John D. (1872), Sarah E. (1874), Charles O. (1876), Fred E. (1878), Roxie E. (1880) , and Robert B. (1883). Aaron Betz was a farmer and land owner in the extreme northeastern corner of Summit County. He engaged in grain-raising and feeding stock. He held the office of Township Trustee two terms and served as a member of the School Board. He also was a member of the Norton Subordinate Grange, and served as an office holder. After turning 65, he lived with his oldest son George W. Betz in Norton Township. Aaron Betz died at age 75 on April 21, 1910 in Norton, Ohio.
