Carol Ann Chittum, 50, of the 300 block of Brooke Ave.,passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in Norfolk. Born in Old Norfolk County, she was the daughter of the late Edwin W. Chittum and Sue Kennedy Chittum. Carol Chittum performed in more than 100 local theatre productions in the Norfolk area. A former member of the historic Barter Theatre's acting company, she also worked in Richmond for several years performing with Theatre IV, Haymarket, Barksdale Theatre, Swift Creek Mill Playhouse, and the University of Richmond. She was currently performing in "Waiting in the Wings" in Virginia Beach. She received numerous accolades for her stage work, including Port Folio Awards for Theatrical Achievement for her work in "Death of a Salesman." "Eleemosynary" and "Fuddy Meers." One of her favorite roles was as Melissa in "Love Letters" opposite her long-time friend, the late G.F. Rowe. Another favorite role was Bille Dawn in "Born Yesterday." She worked in public relations for other State Council for Higher Education for VA, and recently worked at The Manning Studio in Norfolk. She had performed extensively in commercials and industrial films. Ms. Chittum is survived by her sister, Dr. Susan Lynne Chittum and husband, Dr. Robert J. Hallmark of Virginia Beach, currently stationed at the United States Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan; an aunt, 14 cousins, and her many friends in the theatre whom she considered family. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 472 North Battlefield Boulevard, Chesapeake. Rev. Randy McMillen will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The viewing will begin on Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Theater of Norfolk, 801 Claremont Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23507.
